Hot Cross Crodot!
It’s that time of year again, Easter has arrived! And what better way to celebrate than with the classic hot cross bun (New World Bakery is our favourite!) or a few Cadbury Easter eggs?
But this year we wanted to get a little creative. With our crodots as the perfect base, we thought it was the ideal opportunity to bring those familiar hot cross bun flavours into something new.
Our crodots work beautifully with all kinds of fillings, whether sweet or savoury and this Easter version might be our favourite yet.
Imagine a flaky, golden crodot infused with the warm, comforting flavours of a hot cross bun filled with spiced cream and plump, juicy raisins, then finished with a delicate hot cross glaze that adds a subtle, sweet shine. The Hot Cross Crodot is a playful, delicious twist on a seasonal classic, perfect for sharing with family, gifting to friends, or simply enjoying as an indulgent treat this Easter.
The Fruit & Spices
To bring your Hot Cross Crodot to life, we recommend a spiced cream filling packed with all the classic flavours.
For a little extra flair, you can customise your mix with dried fruits like apricots or citrus peel for a fruity lift. This Easter, we kept it simple and classic with just plump raisins easy, indulgent, and delicious!
Why We Love the Hot Cross Crodot
These days, finding a skilled pastry chef can be a challenge but thankfully, your freezer has you covered! With our convenient defrost-and-serve Crodots, you can create bakery-style treats like the Hot Cross Crodot without the need to make laminated pastry from scratch!
For this recipe, we simply allow the Crodots to thaw while preparing the spiced cream filling. Once ready, the light and flaky pastry becomes the perfect base for adding those classic hot cross bun flavours.
From there, the Crodots are filled with a spiced cream and raisin mixture, then finished with a light hot cross glaze over the top. The result is an easy yet indulgent Easter treat! Flaky, creamy, and full of festive flavour.

- Allow the crodots to thaw completely so they stay light and flaky
- Place the raisins in a small bowl and cover with hot water. Soak for about 10 minutes, then drain and pat dry with paper towel.
- In a mixing bowl combine the cream, icing sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and vanilla. Whip until soft-medium peaks form
- Gently fold the drained raisins into the cream using a spatula. Be careful not to overmix so the cream stays light.
- Transfer the cream mixture to a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
- Pipe the filling into the crodots from the side until slightly full.
- In a small bowl mix the icing sugar, cinnamon and mixed spice.
- Add hot water gradually, stirring until you reach a smooth, brushable glaze consistency.
